What is a mentor?
The
origins of the word spring from Homer's classic "The Odyssey",
where Odysseus, off to war, chose Mentor (who was the goddess Athene
in the form of Mentor), to protect and advise his son Telemachus.
This has translated to the modern day as an "experienced and
trusted adviser" (Oxford Dictionary).
What are the
benefits?
Mentoring
can improve self-confidence and self esteem, increase motivation,
broaden horizons and experience and raise achievements and aspirations.
It provides the opportunity to discuss and resolve issues which
it would be difficult or inappropriate to discuss with work colleagues.
Many people are reluctant to admit to problems within work because
they are concerned at how that is perceived.
How
does it work?
We
will work with you as an individual in the way that suits you best
(face to face meetings, e-mail, telephone or a combination of all
three) acting as a sounding board for your business related issues.
Initially we will work with you to understand and identify these
issues and your objectives.
Subsequently we will work through these areas helping you to resolve
them in the way best suited to you and your business.
Who can benefit?
We
are already working with a number of businesses on a regular basis
providing mentoring to their Managing Directors - but mentoring
is not just limited to MD's - anyone facing issues in their business
life can benefit from a mentor.
